WORKPROs 27 Garden Bypass Lopper and Tree Trimmer is a heavy duty workhorse. Our red tip bushes in our yard are trees that just wont die. These were mature and tree-like when we bought the place over 20 years ago and were bushed out 5 feet from the fence then. We are forever cutting them back, lopping off the top hoping theyd return to bush-hood. They sprout like weve given them red tip steroids, so we are forever pushing this boulder to the top of the mountain and starting over the next day.
Ive been through 2 sets of loppers that were considerably more expensive in the last 6 months. I keep them clean and lubricated, but our red tips fight back, gouging a chunk out of the blade on the last one. Refusing to concede, I found this manufacturer with a great story and a great reputation for quality tools. Well deserved!
My last 2 loppers were red handled and then orange handled - you know those brands. These are green handles so perhaps they are like snake charmers - fooling the plants with their camouflage or something. Since these are lighter than my previous 2, I wasnt sure how well theyd meet the task, but wow - so easy for me to get in and take care of leggy new growth and some of the smaller branches that have been there for some time. I just kept trimming on our first outing together and when I stopped, I was amazed at the pile of branches behind me and at the sunshine that was able to break through to the ground below - jungle is getting tamed.
The effort these require is different than my last 2, and Im sure there is some engineering/physics reason why, but what I know is that this brand is now on my approved list - anything that makes things easier deserves the highest marks.
